Okay, so I figured I better clean out my gallery and at lease upload something. After finally finding some good art work (thanks, friends, you guys are so encouraging I think the site has abated down- I'm trudging through a lot of crap, but then again, what site doesn't have their load of junk? ), I think I'm ready to upload again!
I liked how this one turned out, which is why I'm uploading this one (I did numerous of drawings, but all of them really sucked). This one has a funny story.
I just watched the History Channel's "Angels: Good or Bad" and it featured a lot beautiful, old artwork containing angels. I was inspired by the story, and one of the professors on the documentary said a quote I really liked: "A person who does good, for the sake of good, and not seeking an award- that's an angel." (or something of the sort...) So, after watching that, previously, I had found some really beautiful vintage photos from old movies. Since I was too lazy to print the reference out, I drew straight from the computer. For some reason, it came out NOTHING like the reference- but it came out great. THERE'S AN ANGEL NEAR ME, I TELL YOU.
Well, it turns out the reason it came out nothing like the reference is because I had the screen tilted back too far so I could barely see the reference. No angel there.
The baby was inspired by a statue, and due to the fact the angel looked pretty empty by herself. Yeah, the baby looks like he's on steroids instead of pure baby fat, but let's just give the good ole "didn't use a reference" excuse. : So that's the story.
And you know what...I know it's an outline...but I have NO idea what to do with it. I printed numerous of copies, trying different techniques (shading regularly, coloring with colored pencils, coloring with GIMP, using crosshatching+ hatching, using just hatching, using just crosshatching) and every time I did so it made it look like angelic junk. My sis told me not to worry about it, but it still looks incompleted. There's something missing....
I'm DYING for a critique!
Same ole tools- and I lost the reference for the girl, and I'm not sure what movie it was, or what her name was- but she played Estella in the black and white "Great Expectations" (She was the PRETTY Estella, not the Estella in the new version. She looks like a freaking hooker in the new version, seriously, how is that "pretty"? But that's another rant for another time)
I love this picture. The profile on the woman is nice. But I'd have to say the 3/4 view of the baby's face needs to be worked on. Well, it's really only the lips that need work. Great sketch~
Her name is Valerie Hobson And you did her profile beautifully! I can't find anything wrong with her. Th baby does seem a bit buff, though. Maybe making its neck and jawline thinner, and shoulders more plump will make it look more baby-like? Not too positive. Also, its face is a bit off. I think if you move its right eye closer to the nose, and move the lips closer to the center it will be fixed.
One thing you might be able to do is just leave it as simple as possible...Like, get rid of any excess lines, just leave the ones that are the most important, and really simply add a bit of shading. One example of what I'm talking about is [link] When I don't feel like doing anything with a drawing, I just go simplistic

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
Have a great time everyone and please fav this article so as many people can see the featured works. I would recommend seeing each one and faving them too.

I love the profile on the mother
the face on the child seems a bit large for its face but I actually rather like it. It's more stylistic, you know?
You've improved SO SO much. I cant wait to see more!
